Bridge to the Marina Barrage

 In Cityscapes

What makes a scene beautiful? Is it the architecture, the light, the ever-changing clouds?

Isn’t it interesting that man-made creation and nature’s creation are so drastically different?

In some ways they are exactly the opposite from one another. Man favors order, control, form and function, the familiar…while nature favors changes, chaos, the formless and the unknown…

We create things to satisfy our immediate needs, at the same time we try to make it beautiful as an afterthought. Yet nature can take a long time to sprout a seed into a tree. Nature’s creation can also be purposeless and meaningless, but it still fulfills its role nevertheless, even without knowing what that role is. Eventually all of nature’s creation is connected as a unifying whole. Everything serves a purpose and yet none of its creation knows why they are here.

A flower doesn’t bloom because it wants you to think that it is pretty. It just becomes. In that becoming, pollination happens and that provides the basis for all living things to thrive on the planet simply because plants make oxygen.

We as humans like to take things into our own hands and craft our own destiny. In the process we have forgotten that we are also a creation of nature. It takes a long time for us to mature from birth, to grow into the destiny that no one knows from the beginning. Nature bestowed us with the form of our body and eventually we will return to the formless. In this fleeting lifespan that we have, how much control do we really have? Do we ease into ourselves or do we force our own hands in creating destiny?

The one thing I have found is that the further away you are from yourself, the more miserable you will be. The closer you are to your source of being, the happier you become. In the process of chasing happiness, we sometimes run so far from ourselves that we become lost. Happiness has always been our search but we have mistaken it as something we find outside, especially from things and other people. The truth is that happiness is from within. All that happens in your life is a reflection of what is in you.

You cannot see all external things if it doesn’t first appear within you.

Understanding that everything is a projection changes everything.

Everything can be beautiful—if you are already beautiful inside.
