“I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.”

Edward Everett Hale

Everyone has something to say but not everyone understands everybody, that is why there are cliques and niches.

At the core we are all the same as human beings but the make-up of our experiences are vastly different. Just being born into a different family, different culture and a different place has already made all the difference. What this means is that when you have something to say, not everyone will understand it because of their own unique experiences and the stages they are at in life. When both parties do not understand each other, they are simply not interested in what each has to offer because they cannot communicate and reach a common understanding.

It has always been a great challenge for me when I try to share with people what I have found in life. When I talk about consciousness, you would first have to understand what consciousness is all about before you can understand me. If you do not understand, you will try to substitute an idea based on your logical thinking, beliefs and experiences to replace my words, and that may or may not be my intent. In some ways, words actually hinders me from reaching out to you and that is why sometimes I prefer to use my art instead; there must be a reason why a picture is worth a thousand words.

When you first look at my capture above, the mind would be switched off initially just because there are no words and nothing for you to debate and think about. There is only an impression, and this impression is powerful because it is an accumulation of feelings from the experiences in your life that stirs an emotion in you. It has nothing to do with me and my art. It is about how you see the world through your own perception. If there is a connection between us from witnessing the same scene, the bridge between us would have grown smaller and closer to the truth, all without the need to utter a single word.

This is one of the greatest difference between motivation and inspiration.

Words tend to motivate. It tries to get you to change even if there is no need for you to change anything. It makes you think that you have to live up to someone else’s expectations and ideal. It is essentially speech in another form and it is used by someone trying to tell you to do something.

Inspiration is a different thing altogether. Nobody is telling you to do anything and you are inspired because you saw something and you wanted to live or do it. Photography in that aspect is a subtle form of communication that inspires. It makes you want to go out there and see for yourself. It makes you care about the subjects portrayed and it doesn’t tell you what you should do, all it does is light something deep in your heart. When that happens, you know you are inspired.

To inspire others then is to willingly change yourself and be daring enough to live according to your true nature, without having to involve someone else. When the light shines in you, it will light the way for others to walk their own path.

That to me, is true inspiration.
