Portrait of a Raccoon Dog

 In Fauna, Photography

I haven’t been watching news on the television or the newspaper for a long time now. If something is really important, it would usually spread to you through others, unless you are hiding in a cave that is. The reason I am not eager about general news is because they are mostly, if not all, about negative things. Life is as hard as it can be and there are more than enough negativity in the world, there is no need to add more of it to your life.

There is a difference between watching YouTube and the television. One you get to choose what you want to watch and the other serves stuff to you whether you like it or not. It is like the difference between choosing your own path in life versus having someone else choose it for you. If you are aware, you will realize that a lot of things are being served to you daily without your permission. These interruptions can come in the form of advertising, media, gossips, etc. Most probably they don’t even have your interest at heart.

What has all these got to do with photography?

Photography is about self-expression and the story behind what you care about. It has a lot to do with what you see in the world. The world is neither perfect nor imperfect. As a unified whole, both negativity and positivity are needed. If there are no negativity in the world, positivity wouldn’t exist—they are both sides of the same coin. As a photographer, you can always choose which side you want to be in. Do you want your photography to portray darkness? To bring attention to all that is ugly in the world? Or do you care about light, love and beauty?

Although people would say that they care about love and beauty, but most are more interested in the drama, conflict and “newsworthy” stuff; they would just trample on the grass and totally miss that little flower underneath their feet.

As a purveyor of light, I have always felt the urge to go out there and grab that little piece of beauty and share it.

Hopefully by doing this, it would add more to the balance of positivity in our world.

Hopefully for you my friend, you would also realize the language of photography.
