Scales of a Green Tree Python

 In Fauna

I was captivated by the water droplets on the shimmering scales of a Green Tree Python. I am not really a big fan of snakes, but when you look closely at the details, you can’t help but fall in love with the intricate design of nature. Learning to see with your heart and not your mind, you will find that even the most dangerous creatures can be beautiful.

The comparing nature of the mind takes away the wonders of appreciation. When we see two trees, one small and short and the other big and strong, we tend to ask why is this tree big and the other one small? If we get to choose, we would always like to be the stronger and bigger one. No one likes to be small and fragile. We are always comparing…this is a big tree and that is a little one. Without comparison, there are no problems. Both trees are perfectly alright, they are both part of the whole. It is only through comparison that we find problems with what reality presents us.

Is the world dark, cruel and unforgiving? Or, is it filled with light, love and grace? It is both. Neither one side can exist without the other. The problem is we are always moving from one side to another. The mind is always comparing. This is good, that is bad. I want this and I hate that. Anger, joy, sadness, happiness…we always have a preference in any given moment. We just don’t see that it is the shadow that creates light. If you want the light, you will also have to accept the darkness.

I don’t always see the beauty in everything. I definitely did not start out seeing the world like I do today. It is because of suffering that I became a seeker. Not many people dedicate themselves in search of light and truth, those who do usually come from a dark place in their lives. Who cares about truth if you are living comfortably? There is no need to if everything is perfectly alright. Only people with immense suffering wants to find a way out.

I see so much ugliness in the world. It is painful. On the other hand there is so much love and beauty.

Most people like to share and focus on the ugliness of the world. I seek to understand the ugliness but I choose to portray the beauty out of the contrast.

That is the essence of my photography.

Accept both sides of the same coin and there is no problem.
