Keeping Things Simple

 In Fauna

Majority of my photographic work consist of animal portraits. I have a secret wish to try to collect shots of as many types of animals as I can in my lifetime.

When I first started in photography, I didn’t plan to specialize in certain subjects but I was naturally drawn and attracted to travel locations, landscapes, marine life, birds and animals.

I am hopelessly drawn to photographing subjects of nature.

It might be because the animals can’t easily take a self-portrait or hire a photographer to showcase their amazing beauty and grace and I felt that I have to do them the honor of documenting their existence.

Actually, I just can’t resist their beauty.

There is something very raw and beautiful about these lives on Earth.

Like us, they are another type of being that share our existence on the planet.

Unlike us, they don’t question their existence, roles, purpose and their nature.

They just know.

They are simple.

Being simple is simply beautiful and that is enough to serve as an inspiration to me.

I have tried to take a photo of an original Siberian tiger for a long time as I couldn’t find one in my country. I was so happy and lucky to be able to find this one in Rome. Hope you all enjoy this shot as much as I do.

Tigers are endangered species and there are only less than 3200 and 6 sub species of tigers left in the world. If things do not change, there is a chance that future generation will not be able to witness these amazing creatures forever.

I will talk more about this and how it affect us in a future post when I post more tiger shots.

The truth is simple, if it is not simple it is usually not the truth.

“Above all, don’t lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love.”

Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

This phrase has always been like a mantra to me in keeping things simple. Everything in our world can always be kept simple, no matter how complex it is. The irony is that we are trained to see the complexity in most things and so our life becomes unnecessarily difficult and complex.

Much is needed in the cover-up of a lie. The truth is usually simple isn’t it? The truth is usually short and sweet. Yes means yes, no means no. It is precise and not vague. A lie is usually very long-winded. It takes a lot of explanation to hide the truth. When we lie, we have to think of various explanations to alter our words and thinking so that it suit us according to whatever purpose we might try to fulfill for our own selfish reasons.

It can be really easy to know if someone is lying. For some it might take a while but eventually you will know.

So why do people lie in the first place? What is worth hiding in the world? When did we even start to learn the art of lying and cover-ups? Why can’t we tell it the way it is?

When you learn the art of telling it the way it is, you start to see things the way they are.

That will profoundly change your life.

The truth is simple, if it is not simple it is usually not the truth.

A flower is a flower. There is no doubt. There is no need to hide anything about the flower. There is no need to explain and compare a flower to other objects in the world. It is what it is. If you can become simple like that, the beauty of the flower emerges and blossoms in front of you and within you. You do not need to see it hiding behind a veil of illusion.

In our modern world, life has become hectic. There are a lot of things to do. Work, projects, family and responsibilities take their toll on us. It doesn’t have to be that way. By keeping things simple, you will realize that you can always break things down into a single small step. One simple step is always better than ten complex steps. Whatever you need to do can always be done simply by just focusing on one simple act that leads to the other.

Rome wasn’t built in a day but it is amazing what each step can accomplish.

Be in the moment and live each step simply.

That is all it takes.
