The Rule of Opposites

 In Landscapes

If possible I always try to spend some time being with nature especially during sunrise when the first rays of light hits. Most of the time I will cycle around this nature park near my home and experience the renewal and regenerative effect of the light of dawn among the trees and lake, surrounded by the chirping of the various bird species that call this place their home.

It feels like heaven on earth when I am there, for everyday when the new light dawns, there is the potential of starting a new story. Everyday is different. We can only experience this difference when we can forget about yesterday because what is past is past. The darkness of yesterday’s night brings the light of today’s morning.

The reason there is an end is so that we can begin anew.

For that I wish you great new beginnings.

Stop for a moment and consider some of the deep beliefs we have about our own truths of what we feel is right or wrong. Chances are for every so-called fact we can think of, there is an opposing belief or contradiction that goes against it.

“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

Wayne Dyer

This is known as the rule of opposites or as one of the universal laws called the law of polarity.

Take for example, birds of a feather flock together versus opposite attracts. How about the famous chicken and egg question? Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Some believed that the chicken came first while others the egg. The thing is whether it is heads or tails, both sides of the coin are true and they belong to the same coin. The wise man will be able to see the whole coin instead of just the sides.

There is no light without darkness, no darkness without light. We are always debating between right and wrong, good and evil but we fail to realize that they are all a whole part of the equation. What we focus on expands, and with it the opposing force will expand too. It is said that according to the laws of the universe, there is always an approximately equal part of opposites.

Nature always strive to seek a balance.

What this means is that whatever theory or beliefs we have, they are always right and wrong. The good news is no matter what choices we make, it will always be right for us and thus there shouldn’t be any more hesitation in regards to the fear of failure and regrets because there is none. There is just a choice made based on what we know best at the time of making that choice. That is the freedom we have and once we are able to move along by being the true self that we are, the mind will end all debates because all those mind chatter is fruitless.

Some might ask if what we do is always right for us then what happens to morality?

When you act from the center of self-realization and from who you really are and how you are connected to the world, there is no need for the question of morality. You will act from the point of serving the highest good for all. The cause for havoc is always rooted in the belief of separation from another.

In this age of information overload, by understanding the rule of opposites, we can always choose to take whatever information that is given to us with a grain of salt. The best course is to take what is useful and discard the rest. What is useful to us serves us and what doesn’t serves us will only hold us back on our purpose to discover the joy and magnitude of life and our own true purpose or Dharma. It is better to raise one’s vibration to that of a higher frequency by shifting to the positive side of thinking.

The more you lose, the more you gain. In between is where the experience of life happens. Without contrast there is no life, without death there is no life.

Lets say that we are feeling a little miserable today, to the other side of the scale we can also have the opposite of a little joyfulness. By raising our vibration to a higher level feeling, we are able to move to the other end of feeling that little joyfulness. As there is an equal part of opposites, it is also possible to gain extreme joyfulness if the experience is that of extreme misery.

The more you lose, the more you gain. In between is where the experience of life happens. Without contrast there is no life, without death there is no life.

Whenever we feel that we have to strongly take sides, remember that it is just part of the whole. There is always a chance to shift to a better feeling. Realize that if you are already at the bottom, the only way to go next is up. The only reason that we are going through ups and downs is to experience life. That is how our story is created and the story is the main thing that forges our meaning of existence.

Detach from the mind game and realize that there is only existence. There is only reality happening in this moment. There is only this one life and it isn’t really that long to begin with. Time passes by so fast that it is foolish to just stay on one side of the spectrum.

The point of life is to enjoy the roller coaster ride for what it is, through the ups and downs, before it comes to an end. All that we can wish for is during the joyride, we can leave the world better than we found it.
